Un tuileur est un document qui rassemble les connaissances indispensables au maçon pour répondre aux questions posées pour être autorisé à entrer dans un temple maçonnique. Les premiers tuileurs édités datent du XIXe siècle et présentent, pour chaque grade, les mots, signes et attouchements demandés. Ils sont cependant en noir et blanc et peu illustrés. Cet ouvrage dévoile et étudie le plus ancien tuileur maçonnique manuscrit et aquarellé connu, qui date du XVIIIe siècle. L’ensemble présente une collection d’images, exceptionnelle par son ampleur et sa beauté, de tableaux de loge et de bijoux maçonniques parmi les plus rares parvenus jusqu’à nous, qui en font un formidable outil initiatique. Il offre aussi des documents indispensables à la compréhension de l’évolution de la franc-maçonnerie. Le commentaire historique et symbolique présenté ici est essentiel pour les apprécier, comprendre leurs significations et les relier à la franc-maçonnerie contemporaine. 

Chaque fois le même sérieux et la même rigueur quant à l’analyse : description de la loge, mots, signes, attouchements, mots de passe et historique du grade. Une large place est aussi donnée à l’exceptionnelle iconographie. La seconde partie nous rend familier avec les différents grades usités alors, de celui de Maître et Maître Parfait à celui de Grand Inspecteur et Grand Élu. Enfin, la troisième partie et l’annexe reproduisent le manuscrit GLNF, celui de la Bibliothèque André Doré, mais aussi celui détenue par la GLUA et les dessins de la BnF. Sans compter les nombreux tableaux comparatifs qui mettent en exergue les correspondances dans les différents rites (REAA, Français, RER).

to esoteric and cultural studies. Considering the importance which Freemasonry holds
in any scholarly examination of the Western esoteric tradition and the confusingly
pervasive contemporary legends and folklore which surround Freemasonry, The
Origins of Freemasonry is a book which is clear, well-presented, and serves to dispel
some of the more fantastic legends which are circulated in popular books, television
“documentaries,” and in the more fabulous areas of the Internet. Margaret Jacob’s The
Origins of Freemasonry is a well-written, thoroughly researched, and meticulously
