De Verlichting uit evenwicht?

Madrid, Londen, Parijs … en onze eigen hoofdstad, 22 maart 2016 – de aanslagen in het hart van België en van Europa. Het veiligheidsbeleid staat op scherp en we beroepen ons voor het eerst in lange tijd opnieuw op ‘normen en waarden’, op de traditie van ‘de Verlichting’ en op ‘de moderniteit’. Maar weinigen benoemen de beginselen van de grote verlichte denkers en de betekenis die ze vandaag hebben voor moderne samenlevingen: het belang van democratie en rechtsstaat, van universele rechten en plichten.
